Inflatable SUP or hard SUP?

Today there are two different designs of Stand Up Paddle boards, an inflatable SUP and a hard SUP. The hard board is made of epoxy and fiberglass, and is therefore also called Epoxy-SUP. The other variant is inflatable, which makes the board very easy to roll up and transport. Well inflated to the right air pressure, the inflatable SUP board is hard and stable.

Advantages and disadvantages of SUP

There are of course both advantages and disadvantages to both variants of SUP boards, depending on the what it should be used for.

Advantages of hard epoxy SUP:

• Better glide
• Works better in waves and rough seas
• More support from the fin

Advantages of inflatable SUP:

• More sturdy
• Takes up very little space
• User-friendly and stable

Disadvantages of hard epoxy SUP:

• More sensitive to shocks and impacts
• Takes up a lot of space to store

Disadvantages of inflatable SUP:

• Slightly worse glide
• Doesn't work as well in waves
